Dar es Salaam, 1st Feb.2024 – The ELICO Foundation has announced the commencement of a transformative project, the South-to-South E-mobility Policy Exchange, aimed at revolutionizing Tanzania’s E-Mobility Ecosystem. Launched in January 2024, this initiative is a collaborative effort involving key stakeholders such as Policy Makers, the Commission of Science and Technology (COSTECH), the Ministry of Transport, the Tanzania Electric Mobility Association (TAEMA), and other significant players in the electric mobility sub-sector.

Supported by the Drive Electric Campaign through the Leapfrogging to E-mobility Acceleration Partnership (LEAP) Fund, the primary objective of the South-to-South E-mobility Policy Exchange is to establish a comprehensive policy framework for the deployment and scaling up of e-mobility in Tanzania. This framework will address critical aspects, including infrastructure development, regulatory policies, technology adoption, and public awareness initiatives, laying the groundwork for a sustainable and efficient e-mobility ecosystem.

The collaborative nature of this initiative draws upon the expertise of government agencies, industry associations, research institutions, and private companies to tackle the complex challenges associated with e-mobility deployment. The LEAP Fund provides essential funding for research, study visits, pilot programs, and the development of policy recommendations.

This groundbreaking project has the potential to make a significant impact on Tanzania’s e-mobility ecosystem, contributing to reduced carbon emissions, improved air quality, enhanced energy security, and increased technological innovation in the transportation sector. Additionally, it is expected to create new economic opportunities and align with sustainable development goals.

Sisty Basil, the Executive Director of ELICO Foundation, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, stating, “The South-to-South E-mobility Policy Exchange is a crucial step towards shaping Tanzania’s e-mobility ecosystem. Through collaboration, funding support, and comprehensive policy development, this initiative has the potential to drive meaningful change in the transportation landscape of Tanzania.”
