Enhancing Urban Migrant Resilience through Sustainable Waste Management Practices

With rapid population growth in various cities and increased rural-urban migration, cities like Dar es Salaam are expected to double their population by 2035. This influx of people for socio-economic reasons poses challenges to urban infrastructure and services.

Climate-driven migration exacerbates existing urban migration trends, leading to a pressing need for solutions to accommodate the growing population. Inadequate urban planning results in unplanned settlements and unsustainable exploitation of natural resources like water and forests. The project aims to enhance urban migrant resilience by improving social services, expanding infrastructure, and exploring circular economy opportunities. By creating green jobs and promoting sustainable waste management practices, the project seeks to address the challenges posed by the booming population due to climate-induced migration.
