Revolutionizing Agriculture in Rural Tanzania with Solar-Powered Irrigation Systems

ELICO has pioneered a groundbreaking solution to transform agriculture in rural Tanzania through the adoption of mobile solar irrigation pumps. Our cutting-edge mobile 0.5 – 2 hp solar water pump system, equipped with 600W – 1,200W PV modules mounted on a solar trolley, has the remarkable capacity to pump up to 20,000 litres of water per day over distances of up to 0.8km. By replacing traditional gasoline pumps that are not only costly but also high maintenance. ELICO’s solar irrigation systems offer a sustainable and efficient alternative that is tailored to the needs of smallholder farmers.

ELICO has successfully developed innovative models for ownership, leasing, and maintenance, ensuring that our technology is accessible and affordable to smallholder farmers. Through this initiative, ELICO aim to fabricate and deploy mobile solar irrigation systems and agro-centric mini-grids across rural Tanzania, empowering smallholder farmers with the tools they need to thrive. The deployment strategy includes a PAYGO system for ownership, irrigation as a service as well as lease mechanisms that enable owners to recover costs while fostering community sharing.

Moreover, the agro-centric mini-grid goes beyond just irrigation; ELICO installs agro-centric mini-grids that support activities such as water pumping for cattle troughs, aquaculture, and lighting, further enhancing the agricultural landscape in rural Tanzania.
